Truly wild Barnacle Geese are hard to come by in the Sheffield area. The odd ones mixing with Canada Geese in winter are most likely to be escapees or feral, but the occasional mid-winter party which arrive in hard weather and usually gone the next day are the most likely candidates for wild birds. These six at Redmires on 19th July 1986, however, were never likely candidates and colour rings proved that they were escapees from a fully-winged flock at Martin Mere, Lancashire.
