Catching up with a Bee-eater at Spurn.

On Friday 1st June 2001, as part of their traditional annual away-day [away from Sheffield that is] Chris McNaghten and Richard Hill decided to visit Spurn. They were lucky enough to drop in on this European Bee-eater Merops apiaster at Kilnsea. However, being at 'The Warren' when they found out about the bird, after obtaining details from a local birder, they found themselves running then racing all the way back to Kilnsea. Fortunately they found  the bird perched on wires near to the Churchyard where it spent most of the next half-an-hour before it flying off NW at about 1040h. It did, however, take a quick flight [during this time] over a nearby field of rape, where it was observed catching prey.
