Common Sandpipers - nesting habits.

Most Common Sandpiper nests would be built in thick vegetation within 20 or 30 metres of the waters edge. However, the incubating bird shown above, was photographed by Carl Corbidge near Broomhead Res in 1989, the best part of 200 metres away from the reservoir. More typical is the bird in shot below. This is one of a territorial pair photographed at Redmires on 22nd June 2001 by Richard Hill. There were four pairs at Redmires in 2001, all nesting close to the reservoir margins.  Further details and photographs of Common SandpiperLast updated 7th July 2003.
