Pochard - 5; Mute Swan - 3 [inc a colour-ringed bird - Red JSJ] - this bird was ringed at Fairburn Ings on 25/06/99 as a 1 year old female. All recorded sightings of the bird have been at Manvers with the last one 06/01/03.

Grey Heron 1; Great crested Grebe 1 on nest, 3 adults; Mallard 4 broods + c.40 adults (not all 'pure' Mallard); Tufted Duck 3 males; Coot 3 broods and 3 pairs + 2 spare adults; Black-headed Gull 14; Chiffchaff  1 singing male.

Thursday 14th June, 2001, 1314h-1330h
Great Crested Grebe 4 adults and 1 on nest; Coot 8 including 2 pairs with 5 and 7 chicks; Mallard c30+; Common Tern 1 fishing, caught fish and carried it away, presumably feeding female or chicks somewhere; Black-headed Gull 3; Grey Heron 1; Ruddy Duck 1 male; Reed Bunting 1 singing; Blackcap 1 singing.

Tuesday 22nd May 2001, 1310h.
One Great-crested Grebe on nest plus 6 other Great-crested Grebes, several Coot (2 on nest), c.15 Mallard (and mixture of breeds) on bank with 10 male Mallard on reservoir, 8 Black-headed Gulls, 1 Grey Heron, 2 singing male Sedge Warblers on the margins of the reservoir by the roadside.
In woodland behind Elsecar Heritage Centre: singing birds included Chaffinch, Great Tit, Blackbird, Lesser Whitethroat, Cuckoo, Blue Tit and Pheasant (calling); 1 male Kestrel hunted in a nearby field, 1 Great spotted Woodpecker flew overhead.

Wednesday 16th May 2001, 1500h.
Three Common Swifts, c.10 Mallard (2 females), 8 Great Crested Grebes (no signs of nesting), 1-2 House Martins, a few Swallows, 10 Black-headed Gulls, 8 Coot (2 on nests), 1 Grey Heron fishing.
