Kittiwakes - a flock at Redmires

These photographs show 29 of a flock of 33 Kittiwakes that was present when Keith Clarkson and I arrived at Redmires on 1st March 1984. Six were adults the remainder were 2nd winter birds. Regular lunch-time trips to Redmires with Keith during that year produced numerous good records. This party of Kittiwakes was, at the time, the second largest recorded in the area, most records being of one or two birds. Kittiwakes are mainly recorded in winter and spring, with March and April the best months. The species has turned up at many of our local waters, but RVCP and Thrybergh CP are both good bets.
