Annual Reports
This is the SBSG annual bird report for the Sheffield area. The first issue of the Sheffield Bird Report was for 1973, but these early issues are now collector's items. After the publication of our book "Birds of the Sheffield Area, including the north-east Peak District" in 1985 [see under Avifauna], the annual report was re-titled "Birds in the Sheffield Area, 1986" etc.
The SBSG has been lucky enough to have a good number of local bird artists within its ranks over the years, and the Reports are thus illustrated almost entirely by local artists. Black and white photographs were introduced in 2000 and colour several years later. The ever expanding number of digital photographers ensure a ready supply of material for the Report as well for the website.
The SBSG was pleased to receive the British Birds
Award for the Best Annual Report for 1991, and the BTO Best Annual
Bird Report in 2002 and 2003. No doubt wishing to avoid
irritating other bird groups, the BTO abandoned the competition at this point!
SBSG Members receive a free copy of the Annual Report published in their year of
joining and thereafter.
You can email Martin Hodgson for further details about back-copies, both those featured below and earlier ones. For some of the years prior to 2007 we have many spare copies which the committee has decided can be given to members free of charge (subject only to postage). Postage for one copy will be £1.75. Martin can advise on availability, and on costs or alternative delivery for multiple orders.
