Recording in the Sheffield area.

Recording Information Index | SBSG Home |

Within the "Recording Information" pages you will find much information about the SBSG recording area, some background into why we record and what happens to the data you provide. There are links to a map of the recording area covered by the group, as well as several useful lists - species and locality lists, a list of the species for which we require corroborating evidence and printable forms on which to submit descriptions.

As SBSG members will undoubtedly know, the prime aim of the group is to survey and record the birds within the area, and to produce an annual bird report [see "SBSG Publications" from the side menu]. The annual report is subsequently published, with statutory copies going to the British Library and the University Depositaries, as a legal obligation. Thus the contents of each report becomes scientific data and consequently we are obliged to ensure it is as accurate as possible.

In some instances we receive information that is either never corroborated or not well enough documented. In these circumstances we are obliged to err on the side of caution and simply not use that information. This does not necessarily reflect any criticism of the original observer[s].

So ... with the HEAVY stuff now out of the way, here follows a number of links which will hopefully help you enjoy your birding here in Sheffield.
