A Short Note From A Spanish Salinas.

On a recent trip to SE Spain, Richard Hill visited one of the numerous salt pans in the country. On 8th May 2001 Richard took a trip to one of them, Salinas de la Mata, which is 40km south of Alicante. Other than the Woodchat Shrike Lanius senator pictured here the site also held c.100 Slender-billed Gulls Larus genei and c.200 Yellow-legged Gulls Larus [cachinnans] michahellis, although the heat-haze made it impossible to photograph them at the time.
