Stonechat

Photograph Copyright © Tony J Morris
Stonechat [pictured - male] is usually recorded in small numbers on passage and in the winter months but the breeding population during the last century was either non-existent or at best sporadic. Since 1994, however, it has bred annually, although only in small numbers. Upwards of probably 3 or 4 pairs have breed at one or other of a small list of known upland localities. Cutthroat Bridge is probably the best known and most easily accessible site. Last updated 9th April 2000
