Yellow-legged Gull - a second winter

These two photographs of the same 2nd-winter Yellow-legged Gull, Larus [cachinnans] michahellis, were taken at Poolsbrook CP by Ashley Fisher on 30th November 2000. Note in the shot below how the clean white head of this bird stands out from any other in the photograph. The top photograph shows the flatter crown with steep nape and heavy bill which is still virtually all black. In contrast to Caspian Gull, Yellow-legged Michahellis, are probably easier to identified as they move towards maturity. Last updated 29th December 2000.
